Recruitment
Recruitment
Ontario has a healthcare human resources crisis. By 2028, the province will need at least 86,700 more healthcare workers to meet increased hours of care and support.
The system is in desperation mode, which has created an environment of quantity over quality. Our current system has resulted in an unprepared workforce that is exiting the healthcare sector at an alarming rate, which means there are less workers for more jobs, and increases agency use; ballooning costs and quality of care.
Most members have considered leaving their employer in the last several years or healthcare altogether
- Recruitment is becoming more difficult and expensive with job vacancy rates increasing by nearly 70% in health care in the last four years
- The Ontario Long-Term Care Association (OLTCA) says that nearly all homes report having difficulty filling shifts for nurses and more than 60% for PSWs
- Employers can leverage the union to create a pipeline of qualified candidates.
- We have a relationship with thousands of healthcare workers and as an international union we have a global network to source, support, and better integrate immigrant health workers.
- We have members waiting to train and fill in demand healthcare careers.
- Labour-management partnerships can be an important retention tool.
